What is N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine?

N-ACETYL-L-CYSTEINE, abbreviated as NAC, is a modified form of cysteine attached to an acetyl group. NAC is essential for the production of glutathione. (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine is a precursor to GLUTATHIONE)

What is GLUTATHIONE?

GLUTATHIONE is a small peptide molecule composed of three amino acids: glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. It is a powerful antioxidant, produced by every cell in the body, with significant production in the liver. Glutathione protects cells from oxidative stress, thereby reducing cell damage. It is crucial for the immune system's function and detoxification of toxins.

Studies show that low levels of glutathione lead to poor liver function, allowing more toxins to enter the body's circulation, gradually damaging individual cells and organs.

All other antioxidants (e.g., C and E, CoQ10, and alpha-lipoic acid) depend on the presence of glutathione to function correctly, which is why scientists refer to glutathione as the "MASTER ANTIOXIDANT."

Our production of glutathione diminishes with age. Studies indicate that the production of glutathione in the cells of the human body decreases at a rate of approximately 10 percent every ten years after reaching the age of 20. Therefore, it is advisable to supplement the body with glutathione.

Production of glutathione also decreases with a poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, infections, toxins, and environmental pollution. Exposure to toxic and harmful substances like acetaminophen, pesticides, benzo[a]pyrene, and household chemicals further reduces glutathione levels. With low glutathione levels, we become more susceptible to infections and diseases due to a diminished ability to detoxify effectively. Low levels are associated with rapid aging, macular degeneration, diabetes, lung and digestive diseases, convulsive conditions, Parkinson's disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders.
